One Crafty Chick

Say hello to my new little friend! This is a lucet. I picked it up at the last Ren Faire I went to. It is a type of hand loom that makes really cool cording. Like I need more hobbies.  These cords are colorful, strong and springy. They can be used for all types of things: trim for costumes and other crafty things, jewelry, hair ties, any time you might need a little rope.

My first project will be a new lacing for my bodice. Lucets have been around since the Vikings and sailors used very large lucets to make rope for their ships. They needed something to do on those long sea voyages to keep out of trouble. It didn’t always work.

No matter how I photograph it, though, it still comes out looking obscene.

Fall has arrived.  I can tell because there are sunflowers on my table.  I wish I had the room to grow them. I love their faces.

Fall is the time for arts & crafts festivals.  Last weekend I attended Pacifica’s Annual Fog Fest. It’s a handmade-stuff lover’s dream. Clothing! Jewelry! Artwork! Food! (Great food.) Shopping opportunities abound. The big score of the day did not happen at the Fog Fest.  I wandered into a local antique shop and found this little dish.

A little chicken dish! A chicklet dish. Like I need more stuff.
