Spring Things

Spring has sprung in my condo complex. I did my spring planting last weekend. I planted lavender, rosemary, African Violets and English Daisies. (The only daisies I can stand. All other daisies are vile.) I put my daffodils to bed in hopes they will bloom again next year. Since I don't have a yard to plant in, my garden is confined to containers. Here you see my daises and my violets.

Usually, I get to choose what plants I grow, but occasionally they choose me. We have lots of tree ferns here, and this little guy landed in a pot one day and stayed. He's had a hard struggle, the last two summers have been extremely hot, but he is determined to live. If a plant wants to live that badly, I figure it deserves the chance. Maybe one day, he will grow up to be a tall tree fern like this one.

Besides the ferns, we have cherry trees, jasmine and a host of other plants that I cannot identify. Here are some shots I took of the plants in my neighborhood.

These are wonderful big, tall purple spikes.

I love the play of light through these fern fronds.

We even had some ducks visiting our pool. They left before I could photograph them. Drat! The green things are here for only a short time. Before too long, the summer heat will be here and the blooms will die. And petals on the ground will be an all-too common sight here in the complex. But there's always next year.
