Being Sick Sucks

I am home sick. I'm not sure what I have, but I'm pretty sure it's NOT swine flu. But, whatever it is, is annoying me. The temptation is too great. I must not give in...I digress.

Let me explain. When one is home sick, one's options are limited. Since I've been home, I've watched an endless parade of the losers of humanity on the daytime judge shows. I have watched Judge Hachett (the kid's not mine 'cause we were just friends with benefits), People's Court (you are responsible because my tree died, even though I refused your professonal help and planted it myself despite knowing nothing about planting trees), Judge Joe Brown (I'm suing my loser brother 'cause he stole my money 'cause he he doesn't have any of his own 'cause he's a lousy drug dealer). I can't wait for Judge Judy. And they say TV rots your mind.

But the real danger is idle hands. What do you do with all this time? I like to crochet things. Mostly, I crochet things that are useful and/or cute. Such as:

or:

or even a nifty bag for faire:

But sometimes, I come across things that are neither cute nor useful. While purusing a lovely antique store in Salinas, I found this:

I don't think I asked for anything in this book. Certainly not that coat. Or this:

Actually, I had an aunt who used to make things like this when I was a kid. We would get several boxloads of things like this (including the infamous Xmas elf) except, instead of using yarn for the body, she would use rolls of Life Savers. The multi-fruit kind. The ants loved 'em.

  1. OMG..that doily with the purple and orange bits around the edge...I found those in my grandmothers house!!! Those old craft mags are scary, but it leads me to wonder...30 years from now, will someone be laughing at the craft mags we use today?
