Of Smores and Hairless Hamsters

I haven’t had a whole lot to write about lately. Not much is happening. I survived a rainy and cold faire, the worst I’ve experienced for a while. I found myself wondering why I was doing this. I haven’t thought that in a long time. But there have been a few developments at home.

First, a hamster update: when I returned from my first week of faire, I found Illya’s cage spattered with blood! (Cue Psycho music.) It was all over the walls and his bedding. When I dug him out of his bed, I discovered his head was covered with blood. I tried to clean it off, but he was having none of it. Imagine trying to clean something only two inches long that wiggles, pushes your hands away and tries to eat the Q-tip. Then, I tried to put some peroxide on it, but that didn’t go well, either. Eventually, I decided to leave it alone and put him back in his cage. He washed it off himself in a few days, but now he has a sad little bald spot behind his ear. I never found any wound or anything. (No pictures, it is sad and pathetic.) He seems totally fine and completely normal now. But, a curious thing happened. I left my computer on the other day. When I came back to it, someone had been Googling "Hamster Hair Club", "teeny, tiny toupees", etc. Illya was curled up sound asleep in his cage. Hm....

The plant I stole has grown roots! Look at those things! I put the cutting in some soil in a pot and moved it outside. I am hoping for the best. Something is ailing my lemon balm, but new leaves are coming in, so maybe it’s okay. There was a little caterpillar munching on some of the leaves, but it’s been…relocated. The chocolate mint has been moved outside also. It’s taken off.

And I’ve been baking! Nothing improves your mood when you are cold and miserable than ooey, gooey, chocolate goodness. I made some Smores Bar Cookies.

You put graham cracker crumbs, FIVE Hershey bars and marshmallows together in a pan and bake it.

This is your reward. Yum. Next, faire, I make more. Much more.
