Surpriiiiise!

Well, I got a little Valentine's Day present from Blanca - actually more than one. Turns out Little White Hammie was preggers when she left the shelter. She had only been there for two days when I took her home, and I guess she was not separated from her brother(s) soon enough. They do say incest is best.



I thought she was acting a little strange when I took her out yesterday morning. Sure enough, a couple of hours later there were two little naked pink pups at the bottom of her nest. By the end of the day, there were four. When I looked this morning, they appeared to be healthy: wriggling about and making little squeaks when they want mama. It's very hard to get pictures of them, as Blanca immediately covered them as soon as she noticed me peeking. So far, she's a good mom.

I called the shelter and the vet there said in three weeks I can bring them in. So, after all my ranting about people who dump hamsters at shelters, it looks like I might become one of them. I just can't handle five of them. If you know anyone who wants a baby, they'll be ready in three weeks.
